Question

How often should I do Pilates?

Answer

Joseph Plates would say that ideally 3+ times a week is preferred.  You can certainly do it more but every second day is perfect. Minimum 2 times per week if you want to see the biggest benefits.  If you are consistent with Pilates 2-4 times per week, you will notice differences in your mobility, freedom of
movement, physique, strength and power.

Question

I have an injury, should I do Online claesses with Kathi?

Answer

Every injury is different.  It is always a good idea to talk to your doctor or physiotherapist before embarking on any exercise program.  Pilates is recommended for many injuries depending on how long ago it happened, your age and what rehabilitation you are currently doing for your injury.  If you're inflamed/swollen or in a great deal of pain, you should consult your health practitioner.  If you are still not sure, please email me with details and include your phone number.  I will be able to determine whether Pilates is right for you or not.

Question

Can I join an online class if I have never done Pilates or Yoga before?

Answer

For Pilates it is best to complete the 6 class Beginner Pilates Series before you join a Mat 1 or 2 class. The Beginner Pilates Series is a great foundation and helpful as you move into the higher levels. After you’ve completed the Beginner Series you can choose what level is right for you but I recommend starting with level one for a month before moving on to level 2.
The Yoga classes are gentle classes and you can join regardless of your Yoga experience.
(Please note: You will need to be able to stand up and lie down on a mat without assistance to do the online classes).

Question

What equipment do I need to do Kathi’s Online classes?

Answer

You will need is a space the size of a yoga mat. You can use a yoga mat, a Pilates mat, or simply a carpeted area that's large enough for you to circle you arms. Some classes will require an exercise band (green).  You can purchase those from me ($10 for 6 feet plus shipping outside of Victoria) or you can purchase online.

Question

How long are the classes?

Answer

The Pilates & Yoga classes are all 55-60 minutes long.  The Essential Pilates class includes a 15 stretch component.

Question

Do you offer one-on-one training for Pilates or Yoga?

Answer

I do not offer continuing, private, one-on-one online classes presently. I do offer a one or two-time private session if you are having difficulty, have questions, or want me to see your form
and add corrections. $50 / 30 minutes. Contact me here if you simply have a question or if you want to set up a one-time, private session.

Question

What are the principles of Pilates?

Answer

Concentration, control, centering, fluidity, precision & breath.  These principles will become apparent once you’ve been doing Pilates for a few months. Pilates develops optimal neuromuscular performance by focusing on core stability, while safely balancing muscular strength with flexibility. Kathi's Pilates combines these modern theories of exercise science with the classic series based on Joseph Pilates teachings.
